1. Scope & Sanctioning
1.1 These rules govern all Pro28 sanctioned races run at 1/28 scale.
1.2 A club may apply to sanction an event. Sanctioned events must publish which classes are being run at least 14 days before race day.
1.3 The Race Director has final authority on race day. Where a club rule, this book and the Race Director conflict, the Race Director wins. Protests of a Race Director ruling go to Pro28 within 7 days.
1.4 Anything not expressly permitted in this book is not permitted.
2. Classes
Pro28 recognizes the following classes. A club is not required to run all of them.
- Stock 28 — spec motor, spec tire, box-stock chassis. The entry class.
- Sport 28 — open chassis tuning, spec motor, spec tire.
- Modified 28 — open motor, open chassis, spec tire compound only.
- GT 28 — GT/sports-car bodies, spec motor, control tire.
- F 28 — open-wheel formula bodies, spec motor, spec front/rear tire.
- Open 28 — anything legal on safety and scale. Run at club discretion.
2.1 A class runs with a minimum of 3 entries. Below 3, the club may combine classes and score them separately.
2.2 A driver may enter multiple classes but may not run two entries in the same class.
3. Chassis & Dimensions
3.1 Wheelbase must fall within the range listed for the body being run. Bodies must sit on the wheelbase they were designed for.
3.2 Maximum overall width: TBD mm measured at the widest point of the tires.
3.3 Minimum ride height: TBD mm, measured at rest with the body on and the battery installed.
3.4 Minimum weight, ready to run with battery and body: TBD g.
3.5 Ballast must be securely fastened. Loose or taped ballast is an automatic fail at tech.
3.6 3D printed and machined parts are permitted in Sport, Modified and Open. Stock 28 is limited to parts listed on the Stock 28 approved parts list.
4. Motors
4.1 Stock 28, Sport 28, GT 28 and F 28 run the Pro28 spec motor. The spec motor for the current season is listed in the Approved Parts appendix.
4.2 Spec motors may not be opened, re-shimmed, re-wound, re-magnetized or timed.
4.3 Modified 28 and Open 28 are unrestricted on motor.
4.4 Any motor may be inspected at any time. Refusal to surrender a motor for inspection is a disqualification from the event.
5. Batteries & Electronics
5.1 Approved chemistries: NiMH and LiFe. LiPo is permitted only where the class listing says so.
5.2 Maximum voltage at the start of a race: TBD V measured at tech.
5.3 Charging is at the driver's own risk. Charging must happen in the designated charging area, in a bag or tray, and never unattended.
5.4 A visibly swollen, punctured or damaged pack is not permitted on the property.
5.5 2.4 GHz radio gear only. Any radio that interferes with the timing system must be shut off on request.
6. Tires & Wheels
6.1 Spec classes run the control tire listed in the Approved Parts appendix. Compound is stamped or marked; unmarked tires are illegal.
6.2 Tire additive, sauce and traction compound are not permitted at Pro28 sanctioned events unless the event listing states otherwise.
6.3 Truing and sanding of tires is permitted. Cutting, grooving and chemical treatment are not.
6.4 Foam inserts are open unless the class listing restricts them.
7. Bodies & Appearance
7.1 Bodies must be a realistic representation of a full size car appropriate to the class.
7.2 Bodies must be painted, mounted and in one piece. Bare, cracked or heavily damaged bodies fail tech.
7.3 Wings and splitters must be of a type fitted to the real car or supplied for that body. No open-ended aero.
7.4 Every car must carry a legible number visible from above.
8. Race Format
8.1 A standard Pro28 event is 3 qualifiers and 1 main.
8.2 Qualifying is round-by-round; a driver's best single round counts.
8.3 Main length is 5 minutes for all spec classes and 6 minutes for Modified 28, unless the event listing states otherwise.
8.4 Mains are seeded off qualifying. A-main is the top qualifiers, then B, C and so on.
8.5 A race starts on the timing system's countdown. A car not on the track at the tone starts from the back of the pack when it joins.
8.6 Every driver marshals the heat immediately after their own unless excused by the Race Director.
9. Driving Standards & Penalties
9.1 The car being passed is entitled to its line. The car making the pass is responsible for making it cleanly.
9.2 Cutting the course to gain a position: the position must be given back on the next straight. Failure to give it back is a lap penalty.
9.3 Repeatedly driving into another car is a stop-and-go. A third offence in one event is a disqualification from that event.
9.4 Abuse of a marshal, a corner worker or the Race Director is an immediate disqualification from the event.
9.5 Penalties available to the Race Director: warning, stop-and-go, lap deduction, disqualification from the heat, disqualification from the event.
10. Technical Inspection
10.1 All cars are subject to tech before the main and at random during qualifying.
10.2 Impound: the top 3 finishers of every main report to tech immediately. Leaving the area before being released is a disqualification.
10.3 A car that fails tech loses the result of the heat it was teched from.
10.4 A deliberate attempt to defeat a spec rule is a disqualification from the event and a report to Pro28.
